25 kV AC railway network monitoring

A 25 kV railway infrastructure is a complex system that requires permanent monitoring, for configurations and maintenance activities. Ageing and heterogenous materials make these operational activities a real challenge!

 

The solution presented here demonstrates that is possible to get information from the field and analyse it in real-time, to ease decision-making. Detection of electrical anomalies using continuous monitoring has been achieved. In addition, it was possible to better know energy flows for the optimisation of the infrastructure’s performance.

 

The following applications have been specifically developed:

  • Online and automatic trigger to detect and calculate event parameters on the catenary (sampling frequency of 10kHz).

  • Accurate impedance calculation for the catenary event using an integrated calculation solution.

  • Integrated indicators to estimate power quality.

  • Identification of energy potentials using an online Dashboard.
